The Beloved Stockpile!

Oh how we LOVE our stockpiles!  While most non-couponing Americans tend to judge a stockpile as hoarding, there is a legitimate reason why it is recommended.

Sales run on cycles, the length of time between cycles varies, depending on the store.  When there is an opportunity to combine a sale price with a coupon, you will want to purchase enough to last your family until the next sale cycle comes around.  This ensures that you are always paying a rock bottom price.  Otherwise, if you only bought 1 or 2, you would be paying full price the following month on the same item.  Trust me, I've been there, and it's not a good feeling!

It's a marathon, not a sprint.  There's no need to run out and purchase every deal you see, it will come around again.  For the beginners, I know it's tempting, but try to pace yourself.  Your stockpile should grow gradually.  The general rule of thumb is that it should take between 6-12 months to fully complete your stockpile.

Donating the excess!  I could write an entire article on this topic, and just might do that in the near future :).  Here's a great tip:  Put a laundry basket near your stockpile or in your garage.  This is the "Donation" bin. Any items (freebies) that you don't want or need go directly into the bin, they do not even make their way into your house.  I occasionally go after a deal that I know I will not use, especially if it is free, just so I can  donate it.

Rotate your stockpile every so often.  Move the items that are expiring first to the front.  This will help to ensure your products are not expiring while sitting on a shelf.  This is also another opportunity to make donations.  While rotating your stockpile if you find that you have excess of a certain item that expires soon, and you will not be using all of it, make sure to donate it.

I too, LOVE my stockpile, and have plans to give it a little makeover in the Spring!  I might just post a photo when finished.  I told you I love it, ha ha!  As always, you are welcome to send in your stockpile pics too!
